The saga that is Nurmagomedov's next UFC bout continues to drag on but it would appear that we're moving in the right direction as the undefeated Russian is officially starting his training camp.
Ever since his victory over Michael Johnson at UFC 205, Khabib Nurmagomedov has been entirely determined to secure an interim title bout with a fellow lightweight contender, Tony Ferguson.
As we reported yesterday, MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani stated that the bout between Ferguson and Nurmagomedov is almost done for UFC 209, along with a welterweight title rematch between Tyron Woodley and Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson, and shortly after "The Eagle's" manager Ali Abdelaziz and Ferguson himself began teasing big announcements to come.
The Russian has his sights set on a bout with Tony Ferguson at UFC 209 on March
Ferguson has won an astounding nine straight fights, six by the finish of some sort. When asked about the contractual issues on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour, El Cucuy told show host Ariel Helwani to "ask them why they're not paying me, and maybe we'll get some answers".
Khabib's father's comment comes on the heels of recent reports that Ferguson had verbally agreed to the match-up, though it remains to be seen if the UFC granted Ferguson's demand for equal pay as Nurmagomedov.
A more cryptic message came from Ferguson's social media and the fact that positive updates arrived from both men in such a short space of time led many to believe that the fight was all but a done deal.
