What is the whole point of a consumer electronics show if you do not have a few concepts that tickle the imagination?
There are, though, plenty of signposts that lead toward the Concept-i today, as many automakers have unveiled in-car technologies this week that are more about the interaction between driver and auto than between vehicle and road (even as the latter makes headlines through advancements in autonomous driving). The engineers at Toyota would like to wow us with their vision of what a auto in the future would look like, kicking things off with "Yui". "Thanks to Concept-i and the power of artificial intelligence, we think the future is a vehicle that can engage with people in return". And no wonder: The Concept-i, featuring an AI-driven UX interface called Yui that's more soulmate than dashboard, is Toyota's vision for the year 2030. Not only that, but the AI-system uses advanced automated driving software to increase safety while on the road.
The "Concept-i" has the ability to drive both manually and autonomously, and processes visual stimuli and driver responses to determine which driving method is appropriate at a given time. And its user experience technology was developed by Toyota Innovation Hub in San Francisco.
Built around the "kinetic warmth" philosophy, the Concept-i was designed by Toyota's CALTY Design Research in Newport Beach, California.
