Iowa State upset bid falls short at No. 2 Baylor

Baylor men, women rise to No. 2 in AP polls

Iowa State shot just 6 of 18 in the final period as Texas Tech took control. A quick 11-3 lead to start the game, including 3 dunks and a layup, was a continuation of their strong play against Oklahoma to open conference play last week.

The Cyclones (9-5, 0-3) have allowed an average of 27 points in the fourth quarter of their three Big 12 losses so far this season, hindered by poor shooting and porous defense.

"We just didn't execute down the stretch and make a couple of plays", said Iowa State coach Steve Prohm "We needed to make one more play to win the game".

Three teams entered Wednesday without a loss, but only Baylor and Gonzaga remained by the end of the night after top-ranked Villanova fell for the first time this season at Butler. We didn't rebound as well in the second half. Adriana Camber was held scoreless in the second half as the Cyclones went cold.

Dominating the offensive glass has been Baylor's trademark in recent years, but this year's Bears are also taking better care of the ball, scoring efficiently at the rim and getting to the foul line more frequently. The Cyclones finished with just five turnovers, while the Bears had 13. They harassed the Bears big, fronting them down low and making post entry passes hard. Only Jake Lindsey and King McClure made a three point shot tonight.

However, nothing came easy for Baylor as the Cyclones gave the Bears all they could handle Tuesday night at the Ferrell Center.

Jo Lual-Acuil had 15 points and eight rebounds and Johnathan Motley added 13 points and 12 boards for the Bears.

Baylor's three point attack disappeared. Motley is one of the best player in the country, and at 6'10, he has a huge size advantage against the Cyclones. Another layup by Acuil off of an Ish Wainright pass tied it once again at 63 with just over 2 minutes to go.

It was Motley and Lual-Acuil who kept Baylor competitive long enough for Lecomte to win it in the final seconds. Iowa State would turn to their all-american point guard, Monte Morris, to answer.
